About Me

My photo
Onica L. Mayers
Houston, TX, United States
Twenty years ago I began my career in education in Brooklyn, NY. If you ask some of the people I grew up with in my native country, Trinidad, they would tell you that they knew I was going to be a teacher since I was a little girl, because I was always pretending to be one. After receiving my B.A. in psychology from Stony Brook University, I decided to be a substitute teacher while studying for exams to enter law school. Clearly, I never took those exams. I loved teaching from the day I started, and never looked back. I served as a classroom teacher for five years, literacy coach for one year, and assistant principal for eight years. This is my sixth year as an elementary school principal. I have obtained a Master of Science in Education Administration, and Master of Science in Reading Education. Currently, I am humbled as I continue to serve as the principal of Kirk ES. I achieve my healthy ratio by spending time with my husband, and three sons, Hunter (11), Parker (10), and Sawyer (8).
